Student Spotlight: Millena Ribeiro, Marketing ’22

Q: OUTSIDE OF CLASSES, WHAT CLUBS/ACTIVITIES ARE YOU INVOLVED IN HERE AT ISENBERG/UMASS?

A: I am a member of Women in Business and was previously a student ambassador, where I got to lead prospective students on tours of Isenberg and answer any questions about college life. I also did this over the summer by being involved with NSO for incoming freshmen. I am also currently UMass Amherst’s newest Red Bull Ambassador! I am super excited to be involved in a marketing role with such an amazing company and provide the UMass campus with RedBull swag.

Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ISENBERG MEMORY THUS FAR?

A: My favorite Isenberg memory thus far has been traveling to South Africa for two weeks on a service trip through Isenberg Citizens First my freshman year (2019). It was such an eye-opening and incredible experience that has provided me with life-long friendships.

Q: WHAT DO YOU HAVE PLANNED FOR THE UPCOMING SUMMER?

A: This upcoming summer I will be a Store Executive Intern at Target!

Q: WHAT WAS YOUR PATH TO FINDING YOUR SUMMER INTERNSHIP AT TARGET?

A: I was originally introduced to Target through my Marketing 301 class, specifically in my discussion lab with Professor Glennon. We were assigned a case study that incorporated back-to-school sales with Target at a college campus. It was a hands-on experience, and it was very interesting to hear about the daily role of an executive at such a renowned company. From there I became intrigued with Target’s culture and decided to speak with them at the 2020 Isenberg Career Fair.

Q: WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO PURSUE AFTER GRADUATION? HOW HAS THE CHASE CAREER CENTER HELPED YOU ALONG THE WAY?

A: After graduation, I hope to pursue a career in the marketing field where I can use my degree along with my Spanish and Portuguese background to make a positive impact on people’s lives! The Chase Career Center has helped prepare me throughout my three years here at the school, from helping me prepare for my first official interview ever as a sophomore, to writing my resume, to answering career questions in general. I know they have played an overwhelming role in my success as a student!

Q: HOW DO YOU THINK YOUR OVERALL ISENBERG EXPERIENCE WILL BENEFIT YOU PROFESSIONALLY?

A. I believe my Isenberg experience will benefit me professionally because I took initiative my first year to become as involved as I could. From joining clubs and programs that were sometimes out of my comfort zone, I have managed to meet so many amazing people and that is what has helped shape my experience. My connections with students, alumni, and professors are extremely valuable because they have all taught me different things professionally and personally that will carry on with me post-graduation and for the rest of my life.

Q: WHAT IS YOUR TOP NETWORKING TIP FOR CURRENT STUDENTS?

A. My main tip for students is to get involved!!! Go to as many club meetings as you can and join things that are out of your comfort zone. This is a great way to meet people with who you share similar values and to learn completely new things about yourself. Believe it or not, simply having a conversation with someone can be considered networking and that will take you very far! Also, do not be intimidated or afraid of going to the career fair as a first-year student. It serves as a great “practice” round and helps you gain familiarity with the process so the following year you can be better prepared and make it count. Not to mention, companies love seeing students taking the initiative early on!
