The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) supports the rights of individuals with disabilities and advocates for their equality and access to independence. The organization focuses on being a catalyst for change, connecting individuals with resources and opportunities and convening trust and solidarity. One of the primary missions of AAPD is to improve the economic and political statuses of individuals with disabilities. AAPD provides individuals with resources and information about voting, access to awards and mentors, scholarship and fellowship opportunities and events and seminars.
Among the services that AAPD offers are summer internship programs. These internships are paid opportunities that last 10 weeks and are offered during the summer. Interns are placed in various settings, such as nonprofit organizations, congressional offices and more. Many are held in (or around) Washington, DC, and AAPD funds transportation to and from the internships.
