Job Title: Conference Services Manager

Did you have any initial career goals when you entered Isenberg? Were there any key moments or influences (a guest speaker, course, or extracurricular) during your time at Isenberg that changed or confirmed your career goals?
I didn’t really have any goals when I entered Isenberg, as I was a bit lost and switching out of the School of Engineering. The career fairs, Professor Baker, and Chef Jen all had a big impact on my career path and opened my eyes to goals I hadn’t even considered.
Can you share a favorite work assignment that could help a student understand more about what you do?
I enjoy speaking with clients about their meeting ideas and needs, and then bringing it all to life! Drawing up BEOs (Banquet Event Orders), Cost Estimates, arranging vendors, and so many more tasks go into this role!
Now that you’re in this position, what aspects have surprised you that you didn’t anticipate before starting?
It was surprising to find out how many different clients I’d be working with simultaneously!
What inspires you about the work you are doing in your industry?
I am inspired knowing that I’m taking care of people every day while also growing revenue streams for myself and the hotel.
What are some daily challenges you experience in your role?
Some challenges arise when clients do not respond in a timely manner or are overly-respondent, which takes away from my ability to perform other tasks. Other continual challenges include operational shortcomings with callouts, engineering defects, and a never-ending stream of work to do.
Is there anything you wish you had done differently while a student at Isenberg?
I wish I would have pursued the Club Management track further.
Networking is extremely important but can be intimidating to undergraduates. What tips do you have for getting started engaging with alum or upperclassmen?
Go to the career fairs and alumni networking events! Bring a friend too, it makes you feel that much more comfortable. Even one connection at these events can make your career!
