Did you have any initial career goals when you entered Isenberg? Were there any key moments or influences (a guest speaker, course, or extracurricular) during your time at Isenberg that changed or confirmed your career goals?

My career goals were fairly vague when I entered Isenberg; I knew I wanted to graduate with a corporate job on the path to people leadership. The OIM courses I took at Isenberg definitely helped shape the type of career I was looking for.

Can you share a favorite work assignment that could help a student understand more about what you do?

One of my favorite work assignments I am currently working on is about house inspections. I am using Snowflake SQL to aggregate data on inspections, taking the inspection counts per week broken down with a few filters to help our workforce team prepare for staffing. Then creating a few displays on Microstrategy. Another part of this project is connecting the inspections data to calls. Looking at drivers in customer calls after an inspection is done at their house.

Now that you’re in this position, what aspects have surprised you that you didn’t anticipate before starting?

One aspect that surprised me is the type of questions I am asked when presenting on my work. Our business partners are looking to us to explain trends in the data. Being so new in the role, I did not expect this to start so soon, but it is one of the fun parts of the job.

What inspires you about the work you are doing in your industry?

I think it is exciting to see the changes our company makes based on analytics created in our organization. We are also able to see how the customers are affected by some of these changes.

What are some daily challenges you experience in your role?

Some daily challenges are trying to make time to be continuously learning and being able to explain technical things to non-technical people is always a challenge as well.

Is there anything you wish you had done differently while a student at Isenberg?

I wish that I had been more involved across clubs at Isenberg and even general events, especially company info sessions. I think it could have been helpful to fully understand the career options out there.

Networking is extremely important but can be intimidating to undergraduates. What tips do you have for getting started engaging with alum or upperclassmen?

If you have a goal of what you need, it can be easier to decide who to network with. Most people will be happy to chat with you, so just invite them to coffee or set up a short meeting. Just let them know what you are looking for or need help with.
