Isenberg Accounting Major Recruiting Agreement

The following information is being provided to ensure all students applying for a job in a public accounting firm clearly understand what is expected of them. In addition, it is to protect the reputation of Isenberg and Isenberg students.

Accounting Recruiting Policies:

1) Students will apply only to those firms in which they are truly interested. Interest is developed through participating in career fairs, 20 minutes with appointments, BAP events, and/or students’ own research.

2) If selected for an interview, the student will accept/sign up for the interview.

3) Once signed up for an interview, the student will not cancel said interview or fail to show up. This applies to all first- and second-round interviews.

4) Do not allow a firm to pressure you into accepting an offer. Firms do not rescind offers once they are extended, so there is no advantage to responding prior to the due date.
* Do not accept an offer until you have completed all scheduled interviews. In other words, if you have scheduled an interview with a firm, you may not cancel it prematurely because you have decided to accept another offer. If you feel pressured, please contact Kim Figueroa in the Office of Career Success at kfigueroa@umass.edu.
* Accepting an offer is considered final, so do not accept an offer unless you are fully committed to it. If you receive an offer from your second-choice firm while still waiting to hear from your first-choice firm, it is acceptable to ask the recruiter from your second-choice firm for a reasonable (i.e., one to two weeks) time extension to provide your decision. Reach out to Kim Figueroa at kfigueroa@umass.edu if you need help addressing this type of situation. Do not accept a less desirable offer with the intention of withdrawing from it if you receive a better/more attractive offer. This is highly unprofessional and will reflect poorly on both you and Isenberg.

5) Internships: You may NOT do two internships in public accounting during the same year. For example, you cannot accept a winter internship with a public firm and at the same time accept a summer internship with a different firm.
* There are situations where a student may do an internship with a regional firm and not receive a full time offer for employment. In this case, the student can go back into the interview pool after that internship.
* If you have a connection to a firm through a prior internship (as a freshman/sophomore), you should inform them that you are planning to interview
for other positions. This assumes that you have not received or accepted an offer from that firm.

6) Summer Leadership Programs/Externships (first-year/sophomore shadowing positions): While you can accept with all the firms you receive offers from, once you accept an internship with one firm, you CANNOT accept with another.

7) Accepting and declining offers:
* Accept your offer verbally with the head recruiter or person who extended the offer to you.
* Decline your offer verbally with the head recruiter or person who extended the offer and write them a thank you note. Decline as soon as you know you are not going to accept so that you potentially provide an opportunity for another candidate.
* Once you accept an offer, you will no longer interview or work at other public accounting firms/companies.

By signing the below, you agree that you have read the above and understand the policies set forth. You further agree to uphold these policies and will seek guidance, if needed, by contacting Kim Figueroa in the Office of Career Success at kfigueroa@isenberg.umass.edu.
