Why see a career coach?
Whether you’re preparing your resume for a career fair, exploring career paths in your major, or seeking guidance on how to navigate a job offer, a career coach can help meet your individual needs. Our dedicated and professional career coaches are here to serve our undergraduate and graduate student populations.
Who may see an Isenberg career coach?

Current Isenberg undergraduate and master’s students may meet with a career coach.

Business minors should access career development services through their home (major) department.

Isenberg alumni may receive full support from the Office of Career Success. You may schedule up to five 30-minute appointments (a total of 2.5 hours of appointment time) within a 12-month period. For more information about alumni services, visit the Alumni Career Coaching page.

Career fairs and employer events are limited to current students only.
What can you expect during a coaching session?
Recruiters and hiring managers want to know who you are and what value you will add to their teams. Our Career Coaches can help you strategize and identify your relevant key accomplishments, strengths, experiences and skills, and effectively communicate them on your resume, elevator pitch, or your interview responses.
At the beginning of each session, you and the career coach will determine the goal for your appointment and schedule follow-up sessions as appropriate. Below is a sampling of areas that could be covered during your session:
- Exploring career paths
- Evaluating academic majors, minors and certificates best aligned with your career goals and interests
- Identifying your key accomplishments, strengths, and skills
- Strategically building resume content by adding your experience and skills
- Creating and customizing a robust resume
- Accessing and using career tools and resources
- Developing and refining interview responses
- Learning about and developing networking strategies
- Building a professional LinkedIn profile
- Analyzing a job/internship posting for cover letters and interview preparation
- Conducting research to inform your academic major and career decisions
What can you do to prepare for your coaching appointment?
Below are tips to make the best use of your time with a career coach:
- Be prepared to share any career documents electronically during the session. You can email or share the document in advance of the session.
- Visit online resources that are relevant to your topic or interest. You can apply filters on this site to help narrow your search.
What should you do if you need to cancel your appointment?
To help ensure fair access to appointments, please follow the cancellation guidelines below. Timely cancellations are especially important during peak recruiting periods, which occur in the first 4–6 weeks of the fall and spring semesters.
Undergraduate students:

Cancel your appointment in the Navigate scheduling system at least 24 hours in advance.

This allows other students to book the time.
Graduate students:

Email your career coach to request a cancellation or reschedule.

Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice so the appointment can be made available to other students.
